Hello Everyone!

My name is Maggie!

As of mid-2024, I have gone from working all overnights to finally walking among the daylight with the rest of humanity (mostly). I am an aviation meteorologist full-time, a part-time tennis player and an avid reader.

'The Weather Writer' has been my 'slogan' since college, where I got a degree in meteorology with a minor in creative writing. I have always had a love for books and telling stories and am excited to share it all with you now!

If you are interested, I have a few shops set up with bookish goodies and stickers, as well as a Pango Books store with my extra books that need a new home!

Still Into You by Erin Connor

Sloane Donavan has dreamed of being a music journalist forever and now she finally has her chance at a big break. If she can get through this story successfully she would finally earn a spot as a staff writer. The problem is she loves this bad, and had a brief relationship with the lead singer that ended three years ago, and yet she can't seem to forget how he made her feel. Dax has changed since they dated, but the way he looks at Sloane stays the same. If they can work together to get through this story, and give Sloane the exclusive without giving away too much, they could both come out of this unscathed. That is until the information that would make the best story has the potential to tear Dax apart.

I love a good second chance romance, add in rockstar elements and I'm all in. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I liked seeing Sloane and Dax work through their own drama and Come back together. Also this book takes place in the metal scene and I love that.

🎾 Tennis Romance Books 🎾

I've grown quite a collection of tennis books recently (and have some ARCs on standby). I figured I'd share them here while also giving my (17 year) old racket and bag one last time to shine.

The red racket and bag have been my go tos since high school. I replaced the racket two years ago but just recently got a new bag. (A smaller one).

Anyone else have nostalgia with old sports stuff? I'm definitely planning on turning my racket into some type of art.

And Now, Back To You by B.K. Borison

Jackson Clark and Delilah Stewart have had their fair share of run-ins over the years. Mostly causing some type of destruction on Jackson's end and embarrassment on Delilah's. When they are paired together for a weather story, one that sends them to the mountains for a large snow storm, Jackson isn't sure he can do it. Delilah on the other hand needs this to go well to prove to her producer that she should only be a meteorologist. Once in the mountains, the two are thrown together in more ways than one, that ignites feelings both of them aren't ready for. But will the stolen kisses only stay in the mountains or will it follow them back to Baltimore for something more.

I loved this book and they are both meteorologists! The weather was written well too, especially for a reader who knows about it. A cute, forced proximity story about two nerds just trying their best.

A queer young adult coming of age novel that follows Danny Victorio as he finds his way through a fine arts school while also fighting his own up bringing and internalized beliefs about the world. Taking place in the late 90s NYC, with a background obsession of Rent. This book was a really great ride, though emotional at times. Be sure to check the trigger warnings on this one.

Beyond the Court by Stef C.R.

Maggie Taylor is at the top point of her career, looking to get a season grand slam and keep herself in the running as a top female player in the world. But when her feelings for her best friend with benefits start to surpass their decade old agreement, she isn't sure she can handle the distraction. Rowan Amory has been in love with Maggie since they met, and he's ready to pursue a real relationship with her after their decade of hookups. As both of them deal with their own feelings they also have to come to terms with why they made this agreement to begin with.

I really enjoyed how these characters were already connected to each other and are now trying to see how it could become something more. I also enjoyed the tennis within the story. Overall this book was a fun sports romance.

What happens when a normal speed dating event actually turns into a murder scene rivaling any slasher film? Well you hope that you and your best friend survive. You also start following the 'Rules of Slashers' that you have hung in your bathroom at home. But when the plot starts to mix with a rom com things start to become more complicated.

Told in one night this book is a fun combination of bloody, romantic and funny. Each epigraph is a play on a romcom line with a mix of slasher fun.

Overall a really fun book with a lot of tense moments and fun characters.

This book was compared to Treasure Planet and I was immediately invested. I loved the steam punk, sky pirate vibes as well as the cast of characters. I was immediately drawn into the story and can't wait to read the sequel.

The Re-Do List by Denise Williams

Willow Lewis has found herself a viral sensation after a bad public breakup with her (now ex) boyfriend of 10 years. Now she is in Iowa, watching her brother's dog while he is deployed and trying to figure out her next steps. When she meets her brother's best friend, Deacon, she quickly becomes friend with him. Deacon is supposed to be keeping an eye on her, not slowly falling for her. When he agrees to help her with a "re-do list" to re-do the 'firsts' she had with her ex he is all in, even when some of the re-dos are probably more than he should be willing to help with.

As the two start to fall for each other they also need to figure out how that might look in the future...if there is on at all.

I really enjoyed this book and how it connected to 'Just Our Luck' world. It is a sweet story about finding yourself after tragedy (of different types) and learning how to start over better and happier.

In this young adult queer space fantasy follows Keller Hartman as he joins one of the most prestigious units in the galaxy. The issue is his new partner wants nothing to do with him. When Keller ends up helping Lament with his personal mission to find out what happened with his old partner, they find themselves in a web of lies. They also start to feel more than just "new partner" feelings for each other making their mission that much harder.

From mild yearning to space cults and trying your best to move on from tragedy this book has it all! Honestly might be one of my favorite sci-fi books I've read in a long time.

Also the ending of this book destroyed me and I'm excited for other people to read it.

When Margaret decides to have them both interview her and work on a proposal, Alice now has 3 weeks to prove she is the person for this job. Now Alice and Hayden are both competing for the job of the century, which is bringing them together in more ways then one.

I really enjoy Emily Henry books, especially the ones with writers as the MCs. This book had me for a bit, I really liked the parts about Margaret Ives life, but other parts didn't stand out as much for me.

When Jessica James finds herself in the middle of a kerfuffle after confusing twins Beau and Duane, she starts to wonder if she was wrong about one of them the whole time. Now her and Duane find themselves pushed together more and more and Jess has to figure out if she is ready to accept she was wrong about him the whole time.

I love a good small town romance, especially since this one is interconnected characters and families. I was pulled into this story immediately and am excited to dive into the rest.

December definitely brought me back to hockey romance and I'm not mad about it. I'm excited to work the rest of the Game Changers books into my TBR. I managed to mix in a holiday story and some other genres, but it was definitely a quiet month for me.

The Long Game by Rachel Reid

The Long Game is the 6th book in the The Game Changers series but a direct sequel to Heated Rivalry, which follows Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. This book follows how the boys handle being together, for real, in a world that still doesn't know. It also dives way more into the mental health aspect of everything, especially for Ilya. I actually think I liked this book more than the 1st, especially some of the more intense scenes in it. I definitely love these two idiots, like most of the internet, and if you read the first book (or enjoyed season one of the show) you should definitely read this one.

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid

I'm sure if you are on booksta or even hockey Instagram you've heard of this book by now, but I need to talk about it so bare with me.

Heated Rivalry follows two professional hockey players as they navigate their beginning years in the NHL while also experiencing deep feelings you definitely don't feel for your rival. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are drafted to the NHL at the same time and are immediate pitted against each other by the media and their own teams. But when they act on feelings that definitely aren't going to be accepted by those around them, they find themselves hiding their situationship from everyone.

After going over years of these two hiding behind closed doors and sneaking off, we get to them later in their careers, wondering if hiding is what they want. But is the NHL, and world, ready for two queer hockey rivals who are actually in love?

I love these two idiots with all my heart and shockingly the sequel, The Long Game, I found to actually be better when it came to the emotions and how they were acting on them. I know the entire internet is obsessed with this book and the TV show but I did really enjoy it and these two little dumbasses.

The Hollowed by Amilea Perez

Lucilla Castillo was never meant to leave Sanctum Medical, but when she might have finally found a vaccine that could offer everyone freedom after being on lock down for so long she has to take it. Now she is outside of the only place that was safe with Alex, a solider and friend, and a team he handpicked to keep her safe on the trip from Illinois to Arizona.

Issues arise when they aren't given any resources to help and the Hollowed come after them. Now Luci and Alex are on their own and trying to get to the next location in time. But with everything against them and a list of false promises, maybe Arizona isn't as safe as they thought.

I am normally not a zombie girlie, but its been a while since I've read a good dystopian and this novel was really fun. It definitely has more adult themes and moments than the dystopians of the past and I was really into seeing how the characters interacted. A good mix of The Last of Us and Alien, in my opinion.

Ice Ice Baby by Carly Robyn

Maya doesn't believe in happy ever after, even if she spends most of her time reading them and selling them to others at the bookshop she manages. When she meets Cole Barrett, star hockey player and definitely not someone she expected to fall for, she wonders if her opinion on happy ever afters is wrong.

But she barely knows Cole, and with all the travel and potential trades it is hard on them both. Maya and Cole must learn to trust each other, and their feelings in order to keep their budding relationship alive.

The subplots of this story were some of my favorite parts of the story. Both Maya and Cole have a lot happening in the background, with their own grief they need to manage as well. There are a lot of serious undertones as well, which I think really put this story into higher on my ratings.

What Wakes the Bells by Elle Tesch

Based on an old folk story from Prague, What Wakes the Bells follows Mina, who is in charge of taking care of one of the bells in the city of Vaiwyn. One of her tasks is to make sure it never rings thirteen times, if it happens it will unleash darkness into their city. When one afternoon she messes up the timing, her bell and the tower crack , causing something she doesn't understand to enter the city. The soul of an old malevolent God enters the city, looking for a body to take over as he searches for his relic, and former love. Now Mina is thrown into a world that is larger than herself.

I really liked the folklore behind this book and found the story overall really unique. I liked the twists and turns and the overall vibe. A Gothic fantasy? Yes please. This book was definitely on my radar a while and I'm glad I got to it!

Heart Check by Emily Charlotte

Luke Dawson and Harper Braedon have always been in each other's universes but couldn't be more different. Dawson is a star for the hockey team, destined for a big figure in the NHL. Harper dreams of leaving their Michigan town, hoping to earn a grant that will make college more accessible to her. She has made her opinion of the new hockey stadium known, and when the coach is fired for misusing funds the team immediately points to her. But Harper had nothing to do with it, and now is suffering from review bombing and overall a bad time.

When Dawson starts to see that the issue might not be Harper, he is determined to help her, even when it might put him against his own team.

I really enjoyed finally having a good young adult hockey romance, specifically high school, where everything made sense for the age range. I also really enjoyed the side characters in this story and how they impacted what was happening. This is also a debut novel and I'm excited to see what happens next for Emily Charlotte.

Accidental Demons by Clare Edge

In this middle grade fantasy novel, Bernadette Crowley is trying to figure out how to control her blood magic while also juggling her newly diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes. Each time she tests she ends up summoning a demon, which makes it extremely hard to concentrate on school. When her sister helps her conjure a demon that could help alert her to her blood sugar changes, Ber hopes that means she can live normally...or as close to as possible. Now her coven is pulled into bigger and her Diabetes demon might be able to help.

I loved this book and its sequel, Mixing Magics, and the way it handled both magic and being a kid with Diabetes. I'm glad kids now will have these books. The plot was also really great and I liked seeing a middle grade novel with some more things at risk.

The Tournament of Heirs by Amilea Perez

Metztli and her brother Acalan are the only heirs for the House of Life and have been training their whole lives for the Tournament of Heirs. This tournament is put on by the Gods, as punishment for humans going against them in the past. Each House must have two heirs participate, their first born and one another. They will compete to the death against other heirs and the winning House is granted a wish, and becomes the leading House for the next 25 years.

Metztli has one goal, keep her brother alive and make sure he wins the tournament. But now Acalan has learned a secret about Metztli that could change the tournament forever, and needs to make sure she makes it through. Now they have to work together with other heirs to guarantee their survival and potentially end the tournament for good.

I loved how this book combined a Hunger Games style tournament with Aztec mythology. There is also a somewhat modern way in how they talk with the influence of older ways. My only note is that the 'before' the tournament parts of the story dragged on for a bit and I would have liked to see more of the actual tournament.

This book is a really great debut for an indie author and I'm excited to read the next one!

Fall At Once by Nora Everly

When Madi goes to help her grandmother who has broken her ankle and needs someone to work the bakery she runs, she doesn't expect to be continuely saved by Cole Sutter. First her car dies on the side of the road and next he's saving her from a tree (really). Madi isn't here to fall in love, especially after breaking up with her long term partner. Cole is in no place for love either, managing coparenting while constantly seeing his ex-wife walk about with her new husband, his former best friend.

But Cole and Madi can't seem to stay apart, even with their best efforts. And sometimes it seems like everyone in the town is making sure they are pushed together.

I had a decent run of cute, small town romances this fall and I'm not mad about it. This book had a lot of heavier moments about fitting in and finding a place for yourself when you feel lost. There is support of a town, plus many firefighters, and the book is a good blend of hard moments mixed with soft and spicy ones too.

Probably one of my favorite set of plague doctors I own, my steam punk plagues! These little cuties are ready for grand adventures and heists! Burning Delight by Emily McIntire

A retelling of Romeo and Juliet told in the modern day with an addition of a town controlled by two families with mysterious backgrounds. Juliette is expected to fall into her family's business, even though all she really wants to do is tell stories. When she meets Ryder, a mysterious boy who always seems to be helping her, she can't help but add him to her stories.

But Ryder is someone else, Roman the son the rival family who has kept him hidden. When Roman decides to rejoin his father, in order to get the medicine his sister needs, he is thrown into a world he doesn't understand. Now Juliette and Roman have to fight their feelings while always being near each other. Now they have to work through their family drama while trying to hide their growing feelings for one another.

I really liked the way this book was formatted and how the story was told. It had spicy scenes mixed in with violent ones and overall you could see where the inspiration stemmed from.

We are the Match by Mary E. Roach

A retelling of the Helen of Troy myth with a modern twist and an added mafia bosses and mob families. Helen is the daughter of Zarek, the most notorious crime boss and the target of Paris' anger. Paris doesn't align herself with any of the crime families, only hoping to get revenge after Zarek destroyed the orphanage she lived in.

When Paris ends up saving Helen, she ends up working for Zarek to see who targeted Helen. But she is also working for Helen to find the secrets Zarek is keeping from her.

This book is a fast paced darker romance. Where Helen and Paris can't seem to stay away from each other but every move is dangerous.

I really enjoyed this take on the myth and how the story was written. It was definitely a darker take on romance than I usually read, with a lot of violence. But if you are in for something different I would definitely recommend it.

The Heartbreak Hotel by Ellen O'Clover

Louisa Walsh has just learned her famous boyfriend has been cheating on her, ending in a breakup after she attended one of his shows. All she asked was that she gets to keep the house, which is entirely too big for just her and just as expensive. When she asks her landlord to turn the other rooms into a B&B, so she can afford to stay, she is shocked when he agrees.

Now she is running a bed and breakfast called The Comeback Inn, where the heartbroken can come to heal. Lou finds herself healing with her guests as she tries to figure out what is next for her. It doesn't help when the landlord, Henry, is attractive and seems to always be over now.

This book, though cozy, deals with different types of loss and how different people move on from that. I really enjoyed how it was written and the side characters are elite.

Faster by Andie J Christopher

In this spicy F1 romance we follow three relationships as they move just as fast as the races. We have Ethan, Cece and Luca, who went from spending years as friends (sometimes more) to never speaking and having Ethan and Luca become rivals on the track. Micaela, the first female driver who has feelings for the team principal. And Paola, who is in charge of making sure drivers are where they need to be, but finds herself falling for the boy she is supposed to be in charge of.

All of these stories intersect throughout the book. I'm honestly shocked with how much I liked this book, especially when some of the tropes aren't usually my go to. This book is definitely a spicy one so definitely an 18+ kind of novel.
