Hello Friends! (old and new) I figured the start of a new year is as good of a time as any to bring in some new changes, talk about what the plans are for the blog (and more), and share some exciting updates about things!
First of all, I want to thank everyone who has followed along and supported this little journey for the past several years. I have had a lot of fun sharing my favorite books with you all and showing you the things I create! Plus, we got to add some new writers to the blog, and I'm hoping to feature more stories from other readers in the future.
Let's start with some of the fun stuff-
Like last year, I have set up a 'Weather Writer Reading Challenge' on Storygraph! Want to join in for some fun, low-pressure reading prompts for the year? Follow along here: 2026 Reading Challenge
I have also added another challenge, mostly for myself, but if you are interested please join my 'Read More Plays!" Challenge. This one is personal for me as I hope to get through the pile of manuscripts and plays I have on hand.
Also, a small plug for Storygraph if you don't already use it. Unlike Goodreads (owned by Amazon), Storygraph is a woman-owned, black-owned small business. It is a really easy platform to use and actually allows you to rate books at intervals including .25/.50/.75, which I really like. Plus, you can join reader challenges and add friends! They have a more broken-down view at what you are reading and your favorite genres, which I really enjoy. It also lets you set a reading goal, like Goodreads, but I find the additional info really puts it a step ahead. Consider showing your support and enjoying all the perks today!
Onto the next 'fun' thing-
The Weather Writer Shop / Book Art has been moved to this website! That's right! Everything will be all in one place for ease of access for all involved (mostly me). I'm going to work on shutting down the Etsy, or at least taking down the listings over the next little bit. The biggest change with this, outside of the platform, is that everything will be made to order and be 100% customizable. This will entail a longer turn around, but it will also help keep my apartment from being overrun between craft shows. This will also give Gizmo more room to wander and fall asleep in the apartment. A win/win!
If you are located in Minnesota, I will continue to have book art available for purchase at Locale Makers Market in Stillwater, MN. So please be sure to check that out soon. You may even see some new inventory items- all still book-based upcycled crafts- that I will be posting about on social media as well. Picture- new folded patterns, bookmarks galore, and all other manner of fun bookish finds. Stay tuned!
When it comes to book review/blog posts, both Allison and I plan to keep up the monthly faves posts. We both really enjoy sharing our favorite reads with you all and can't wait to see what books you are enjoying too. We also are hoping to do more posts about books becoming movies and TV shows and sharing our opinions on those (Also, maybe see about plays that become movies? Cause ya know, I want to read more of those.) We both hope to continue to share powerful stories with you all and will continue to post on Instagram as well with updates on what we are reading, funny posts, and just bookish content in general.
I know Allison has some plans to do the Tropes & Trifles Bingo Challenge this year (on Storygraph since she is unfortunately not local) as well as to start her multi-year goal of reading at least one book from every country. Just based on what she read during high school classes and over the last few years, she is already at 28 out of 195 countries. How fun!
And now, because I want to break the record for 'most links to things' in a post. Here are some reminders:
I have a Pango Bookshop! I sell mostly new / like new books that I either read and didn't vibe with or bought and never read (RIP) so if you are looking for new books for cheap, please check it out! SHOP
I also have a discount code if you've never used Pango before. So use 'TheWeatherWriter' to get $5 off your first purchase
We have a Facebook Page! Follow if here!
Perfect for updates about restocks at Locale, updates on if I'll be at any craft shows and overall a place to see posts/interact with content!
If you made it this far in the post and want to check out my Book Art, use code 'Read2026' to get $5 off a purchase of Book Art from now through Feb 2, 2026.
Again, I appreciate all of the support and am excited to create new things, read more books, and overall share new things with all of you!
Now as one last question, what is the book you are looking forward to the most? Share in the comments!
