Book Review: Maggie and Arthur's Magic Moment by Leslie Rene

Maggie didn't know what to expect when she attended a magical masquerade on Beltane, she definitely didn't think she'd be thinking about about the handsome stranger weeks later, wondering if she could figure out who it was. When another professor, who she can't stand, causes a pall to destroy his classroom and office, among other things, causing him to move into her tiny office, Maggie isn't sure she is ready to share the space with someone she finds arrogant. As they share the small space, and learn more about each other, Maggie starts to wonder if she was wrong about Arthur the whole time.

Arthur Taliesin is the son of a famous alchemist and has now become famous in his own right. He usually doesn't get close to his colleagues, fearing they only want to know the famous parts of him and not who he really is. He moved to the east coast to be closer with his family, and now has caused a pall bigger than anyone has seen before. He knows he is responsible for getting rid of it and protecting the people who are now being effected by it. When he starts to remember moments from Beltane, and the girl he kissed on the beach, he realizes he is now sharing a small space with her. Arthur doesn't know how to tell Maggie that she is the girl he can't stop thinking about, and now he is even more determined to fix the problems he caused, but he starts to realize he can't do it alone. He asks for Maggie's help with the spell to stop the pall, since language is her expertise, and they start to work together, closely, to try to get the pall away by the start of the next semester.

When Maggie starts to remember the events of Beltane a week later, figuring out that her mystery man is the one standing in front of her, she debates telling him. Maggie is determined to not fall for a coworker again, especially after the last one royally screwed her over, but something about Arthur feels different. So they agree to keep it quiet, work on the pall while having some fun on the side, but once the pall is gone and the new semester starts...their relationship ends. The issues start when both of them realize that they don't want this to end, but now Maggie is scared how she will be perceived by everyone around her, especially when the headmaster threatens her job if something goes badly with Arthur.

This book is a debut novel and I really liked the uniqueness of the story. I liked having a magic school but it felt more like a normal 'college' in our world. The magical realism of it all was really great to me. I also liked having a character named Maggie...for obvious reasons haha. I think both Maggie and Arthur had ghosts from the past that were keeping them from each other for a bit, but I liked that they fell for each other twice in the story, once the night of Beltane but another time just being themselves. We get both character's POVs which is something I really enjoy in romance stories overall. I think the book was really written, the story was paced well and the characters were well thought out.
