The Dorothy Gentleman saga continues in the second installment of this cozy sci-fi mystery series, but instead of solving a murder, Dorothy deals with an accidental baby acquisition.

In another cozy addition to my read list, the second installment of the Dorothy Gentleman series delivers on all the silly science fiction and mystery tropes we love. In this book, a baby is left on the doorstep of her nephew. It is up to Dorothy and characters new and old to uncover the answers to all the questions. Who birthed this baby and why can no one remember it happening? How is it even possible when everyone on the spaceship has a futuristic form of birth control that stops conception until they reach their final planetary destination? And how can she prove that this baby deserves all of the same rights as the other inhabitants of this ship when so many others want to treat him as property?
This is a cute book for fans of the accidental baby acquisition trope. Dorothy, as always, gives gender, and her tryst with a yarn store lady/potential criminal mastermind gives whiffs of Killing Eve (if it was cozy cozy cozy) or even Sherlock Holmes (a la Holmes/Moriarty). There is a kernel of something deep in the idea of what characterizes personhood at the core of this silly little story- and it is inherently silly, predictable, and fun. But if you have ever been curious about the cozy genre and are already a fan of science fiction, consider adding this book to your TBR today!
