Book Review: The Reimagining of Thornwood House by Jaleigh Johnson

This cozy fantasy novel healed my soul. Powerful witch Evelyn Sharpe takes over as Caretaker of Thornwood House, a local staple of the small, rural town of Iskendra. The house, however, is uncooperative, losing its magic, and full of secrets from the former Caretaker. As Evelyn meets the townspeople, she finds friends and enemies, connects with her neighbor and his dog, and learns more about what Thornwood House means to the magical world as a whole. She also connects more with her adoptive daughter, Ruby, heals from the disillusionment of her former corporate life, and finds a power within herself that she can finally use for good.
I feel like this lovely read is perfect for grownup fans of Howl's Moving Castle. The magic system in this book is as lovely as it is complex, and all aspects of it are fleshed out while leaving room to continue to expand in subsequent books. This book is ultimately a tale of relationships- those we have already figured out, those we are cultivating, and those we have gotten wrong. All the characters seem intelligent, even if they don't always make the right choices- which is my FAVORITE kind of book. Honestly, this book was just a nice, cozy read that had we wiggling with joy.
