Official Synopsis: She’s off-limits, but he’s never been good at following the rules.
For the first time in her life, Clementine “Emmy” Ryder has no idea what she’s doing. She’s accomplished everything on her to-do list. She left her small hometown of Meadowlark, Wyoming; went to college; and made a career for herself by doing her favorite thing: riding horses. But after an accident makes it impossible for her to get back into the saddle, she has no choice but to return to the hometown she always wanted to escape.
Luke Brooks is Meadowlark’s most notorious bad boy, bar owner, and bachelor. He’s also the unofficial fifth member of the Ryder family. As Emmy’s older brother’s best friend, Luke spent most of his childhood antagonizing her. It’s been years since he’s seen her, but when she walks into his bar and back into his life, he can’t take his eyes off her. Despite his better judgment, he wants to do a whole lot more than just look at her.
When Brooks finds out that Emmy can't get over the hump that keeps her from riding, he promises to help, without telling her brothers. Determined to help her find her spark, and bring back the fearless girl he knew, Brooks continues to help Emmy. But the more time they spend together, the more their forbidden feelings start to come to the surface. They both know it's a bad idea, especially with Emmy's brothers temper.
Now they are sneaking around the ranch, hoping no one checks on, but are becoming more and more obvious by the minute. When they share a kiss for all the see, can they come back from the anger that ripples through the people around them?
I never thought I would be into a cowboy romance, especially one with A LOT of steam at times, but I absolutely loved this book and the sequel. I am waiting, very impatiently, for the next books to come out. I loved the setting of the ranch, the way horse riding was described and overall the characters. Brooks is a great male lead, in my opinion. I'm excited to explore this genre of romance more.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
